FrankNightsBot
FrankNightsBot reads the gig listings that pubs, bars and small venues publish on their own websites, so Frank Nights can show people the live music near them. If you've seen it in your logs, this page explains what it does and how to stop it.
What it reads
- Public pages about events: what's on, gig listings and the pictures on them.
- From those, the act's name, the date, the time, the price and a link back to you.
- Nothing behind a login, and it never fills in a form.
- Nothing about the people who visit you or work for you.
How often
We're testing it in Brighton and Hove and the towns around it, so for now most sites get a handful of requests in all. Once a venue is listed on Frank Nights, it reads that venue's listings about once a day.
It reads your robots.txt before anything else, sends one request at a time, and waits at least five seconds between requests to the same site.
How to stop it
Add these lines to your robots.txt:
User-agent: FrankNightsBot Disallow: /
It takes effect from the bot's next visit. To keep it away from part of your site only, put that path after Disallow: instead of /.
How to spot it
Every request it sends carries this User-Agent:
FrankNightsBot/0.1 (+https://crawler.franknights.co.uk/)
